As a mother’s help you usually work alongside the parent, helping with childcare and general household chores.

You must be at least 18 years old. You are not required to have any formal childcare qualifications, but should have some experience with young children. You will be expected to work up to 10 hours per day.

You should not be expected to take sole charge of children under 12 months. However, a confident and experienced mother’s help can take sole charge of the children on some occasions. With experience you would go on to become a nanny, allowing you to become more involved with the children and their care and doing less household duties. At this point, your salary would also increase.

Generally, mother’s helps would be an ideal childcare option for parents who work from home or parents who work part-time and require extra help with housework and childcare duties.

You can be employed on a live-in or live-out basis. If living in, you should expect to have your own room and to live as one member of the family where possible.
